Enitan assumes control amid N585 million scandal following Betta Edu's suspension
Upon the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, the ministry's Permanent Secretary, has taken charge.
In accordance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directive, he suspended Edu on Monday, citing alleged payment of public funds into private accounts.
Enitan took charge following a letter from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (oSGF) on Monday night.
As per President Tinubu's directive conveyed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the suspended Minister was instructed to "hand over to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation." Additionally, the President directed her to fully cooperate with the investigating authorities during their inquiry.
“Moreover, the President has assigned a panel, led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, to carry out an extensive analysis of the financial structure and framework of the social investment programs;
"... aiming to thoroughly revamp the pertinent institutions and programs in a dedicated effort to eradicate all institutional weaknesses, ensuring exclusive benefits for disadvantaged households and restoring lost public confidence in the initiative,” he stated.
