Emirates Airlines bans pagers, walkie-talkies amid Middle-East tension

Emirate Airlines has prohibited passengers from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies in both hand and checked luggage for flights to, from, or connecting through Dubai.

This decision comes after several incidents of device explosions were reported in Lebanon and Syria last month.

The airline stated on its website that "All passengers traveling on flights to, from or via Dubai are not allowed to transport pagers and walkie-talkies in checked or cabin baggage."

The airline also mentioned that any pagers or walkie-talkies found in passengers’ baggage will be confiscated by Dubai Police.

This action follows tragic incidents in Beirut and Damascus in mid-September, where explosions connected to electronic pagers used by Hezbollah resulted in at least 37 deaths and around 3,000 people injured.

In response to the incidents, Lebanese authorities have prohibited the transportation of pagers and walkie-talkies on all flights departing from Beirut Airport.

The airline stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and remains in contact with authorities regarding developments in the Middle East.

Current travel guidance for tourists visiting countries such as Qatar, Oman, and the UAE indicates that hostilities between Israel and Lebanon could rapidly escalate, posing potential risks to the wider region.

Travelers are advised to stay informed and exercise caution.
