The Sokoto Central Market is ablaze, particularly affecting the motorcycle section.
According to an eyewitness interviewed by our correspondent, the fire broke out early this morning, although the cause remains unclear at the moment.
Another source indicated that the fire originated from a dump site adjacent to the motorcycle section.
In response, Shehu Muhammad, the chairman of the Motorcycles Marketers Association, expressed difficulty in estimating the number of motorcycles consumed by the fire due to its ongoing intensity.
We are unable to provide an exact count of the motorcycles destroyed by the ongoing fire as it continues to rage.
"However, numerous individuals lost their shops, including their motorcycles, as they were unable to arrive in time when the fire erupted around 6 am," stated the source.
"Currently, both federal and state fire services are actively engaged in battling the blaze. However, it may take some time before they can fully extinguish it," he added.
He, nonetheless, urged the state government to provide assistance to those who suffered property loss in the fire.
