Awosika advocates for the integration of entrepreneurial studies into the school curriculum
Mrs. Ibukun Awosika, Founder and Chair of the Centre Group, urged the incorporation of entrepreneurial studies into the basic education curriculum. She made this plea during her role as the guest lecturer at the seventh public lecture of Corona College of Education in Lagos State.
Awosika stressed the significance of introducing impactful entrepreneurship programs at an early stage of education. She specifically recommended the initiation of entrepreneurial education starting from primary school, believing it could mold forward-thinking Nigerian graduates into catalysts for employment creation.
Awosika highlighted the essential roles of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in generating employment and emphasized the importance of well-organized value chains to enhance efficiency, innovation, and overall growth within the sector.
She encouraged students to cultivate a "problem-solving mindset with commercial value" right from the foundational level. Additionally, Awosika underscored the significance of acquiring diverse technical skill sets for enterprise development post-primary or secondary education.
The lecture, titled 'The Future of Education and Entrepreneurship in Nigeria: Trends and Predictions,' concentrated on the intersection of education and entrepreneurship in Nigeria's future landscape.
The Chairman for the occasion, represented by Director of NCE Programmes, Dr. Tayo Kayode-Isola, was Prof. Bidemi Lafiaji-Okuneye, the Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Education, Otto, Ijaniki.
In her remarks, Dr. Olajumoke Mekiliuwa, the Provost of the College, underscored the importance of revitalizing Technical and Vocational Education and Training as a crucial mechanism to reshape Nigeria's educational landscape and bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical skills.
