Armed Men Attempt to Abduct Member-elect at Anambra State House of Assembly
Security Scare Unfolds at Anambra State House of Assembly as Suspected DSS Operatives Attempt to Abduct Member-elect
A tense atmosphere gripped the Anambra State House of Assembly when four armed men, believed to be Department of State Services (DSS) operatives, made an attempt to forcefully take away Mr. Onyekachukwu Ike, the member-elect for Nnewi North constituency.
Arriving at the Assembly complex in three vehicles, the armed men seized the member-elect following his participation in a valedictory thanksgiving mass for the previous Assembly. Determined to leave with their captive, they embarked on their escape before being thwarted by swift action from the security personnel who promptly secured the exit gate.
Assembly Officials Express Frustration as DSS Operatives Attempt to Abduct Member-elect Without Prior Notice
The Acting Clerk of the Assembly, Mrs. Esther Aneto, alongside other senior staff, expressed dismay over the actions of the suspected DSS operatives, who made no attempt to inform them or the Police personnel stationed at the Assembly before their attempt to whisk away Mr. Ike.
In response, one of the suspected DSS operatives claimed that they possessed a court order authorizing the arrest of the member-elect.
However, the intervention of the Speaker, Dr. Uche Okafor, and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, who attended the Valedictory session on behalf of the Governor, was crucial in securing the release of the member-elect.
