Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), has condemned the abandonment of the Brass Modern Refinery project in Bayelsa State as unacceptable.

The minister stated this during an inspection visit to Brass Local Government Area, where he also assessed the Ewa-Ama road project, which leads to the Brass Petroleum Products Terminal.

According to the minister's spokesperson, Nneamaka Okafor, Lokpobiri reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to revitalizing key Niger Delta oil and gas infrastructure.

Lokpobiri, accompanied by Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, emphasized that President Bola Tinubu's administration's priority remains the completion of ongoing projects in the region.

He stated that the government intends to complete the projects during the president's first two years in office.

"It is unacceptable that such a strategic project has been left in this condition for so long. "The federal government remains committed to completing critical oil and gas infrastructure, such as the Brass Refinery, in order to create jobs and drive economic growth in the region," he said.

During his visit, the minister met with representatives from the host community and praised them for their peaceful approach in the face of current challenges.

He encouraged them to support the federal government's initiatives while assuring them that their concerns had been addressed.

The minister urged the host community to maintain peace, stating that stability is critical for attracting investment and development.

He reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing opportunities for the people of Brass and the entire Niger Delta region.

"I sincerely appreciate the Brass residents' patience and cooperation. Your assistance is invaluable, and I assure you that we will work tirelessly to resolve these issues and finish this project," he stated.
