AfriGO, PalmPay partner to distribute 5m debit cards

AfriGO, Nigeria's national domestic card scheme, has partnered with PalmPay to issue more than 5 million payment cards across the country.

This initiative seeks to increase financial inclusion, empower underserved communities, and strengthen Nigeria's digital payment ecosystem.

"AfriGO and PalmPay have formed a strategic partnership. This collaboration aims to transform the payment landscape by providing over 5 million AfriGO cards to Nigerians. AfriGO and PalmPay intend to use this initiative to empower underserved communities, increase financial inclusion, and strengthen Nigeria's digital economy," they stated.

AfriGO, Nigeria's national domestic card scheme, was launched by the Central Bank of Nigeria in partnership with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System to improve the country's digital payment landscape.

Unlike foreign card schemes, AfriGO provides a more cost-effective and accessible solution, with all transactions settled in naira and processed locally.

This eliminates foreign exchange risks, lowers costs for banks and customers, and strengthens Nigeria's financial infrastructure.

Chika Nwosu, Managing Director of PalmPay Nigeria, stated that the collaboration with AfriGO will provide secure, cost-effective, and locally adapted payment solutions, empowering Nigerians and driving growth in the digital sector.

"At PalmPay, we are committed to developing financial solutions that are both innovative and inclusive. Partnering with AfriGO enables us to provide secure, cost-effective, and locally tailored payment options that empower Nigerians and strengthen the digital economy. "This is a significant step in our mission to redefine financial accessibility in Nigeria," he stated.

Furthermore, Ebehijie Momoh, Managing Director/CEO of Afrigopay Financial Services Limited, stated that the collaboration with PalmPay will improve digital payment access and support Nigeria's growing digital economy.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with PalmPay to transform financial services and increase access to digital payments throughout Nigeria. Through this collaboration, AfriGO and PalmPay will improve access to digital payments, particularly in underserved areas, drive financial inclusion, and support Nigeria's rapidly growing digital economy," he stated.

AfriGO cards provide users with a convenient way to conduct financial transactions, such as in-store and online purchases, ATM withdrawals, money transfers, and cashless payments through Agent POS terminals.
