Police launch manhunt for assailants who decapitated inspector in Akwa Ibom
Police in Akwa Ibom State launched an investigation into the brutal killing of Inspector Osang, who was beheaded by unidentified gunmen.
The incident took place at Osang's residence in a suburb of the Uyo metropolis on Wednesday night. Hoodlums gained entry into the compound, shooting sporadically to intimidate residents before accessing Osang's apartment.
Inspector Osang's beheading is the third tragic incident in a series of murders in Akwa Ibom State that started in January. The earlier incidents include the beheading of a woman near Banking Layout, Uyo, and the murder of another lady whose dismembered body was placed in a Ghana-Must-Go bag and abandoned at the roadside in the Nwaniba area last Sunday night.
Upon inquiry, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Mac-Don, acknowledged the incident and expressed regret over the unfortunate event. He mentioned that the new Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, has directed a discreet investigation into the murder of Inspector Osang, emphasizing that no effort would be spared to apprehend the perpetrators.
We have received that information, and it is indeed an unfortunate situation. The Commissioner of Police has already ordered an investigation, and we are dedicated to eliminating criminal elements from our streets. This incident will not deter us, and we are determined to ensure that those with criminal intent are held accountable for their actions,” stated Macdon.
