Apple reshuffles AI leadership amid Siri delays
Following months of setbacks, Apple Inc. has made significant changes to its executive team in order to accelerate its artificial intelligence development, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday, citing sources familiar with the situation. The restructuring comes as some AI enhancements to Apple's voice assistant, Siri, have been delayed until 2026. The company previously acknowledged the delays but did not provide an explanation.
As part of the restructuring, Mike Rockwell, vice president of the Vision Products Group, will now oversee Siri. The move comes after reports surfaced that Apple CEO Tim Cook has lost faith in John Giannandrea, the company's head of AI, regarding product execution.
Rockwell, who was instrumental in the development of Apple's Vision Pro headset, will now report to software chief Craig Federighi, effectively removing Siri from Giannandrea's purview, Bloomberg reported.
In addition, Paul Meade, a senior executive in charge of hardware engineering on the Vision Pro, will assume leadership of the Vision Products Group.
The company has been expanding its AI-powered features, including the "Apple Intelligence" initiative, which debuted last year. The technology's capabilities include email rewriting and inbox summarisation, which aim to improve the user experience.
