UK Minister for Business and Trade delves into strengthening connections with Nigeria during an offi

Kemi Badenoch, the Minister for Business and Trade from the United Kingdom, has commenced a three-day visit to Nigeria today, as confirmed by a statement from the British High Commission. The purpose of this visit is to enhance the partnership between the UK and Nigeria. Throughout her stay, the minister will engage in discussions with her Nigerian counterparts and other significant government officials, focusing on matters mutually beneficial to both nations.

In August of last year, the former Foreign Secretary of the UK, James Cleverly, conducted an official visit to Nigeria, engaging in subsequent discussions regarding defense and security collaboration between the two nations.

Building on the discussions initiated by the former Foreign Secretary and the recent UK-Nigeria Security and Defence Talks held last week, Minister Badenoch's visit aims to advance the ongoing efforts of both countries in enhancing the trade relationship between the UK and Nigeria and identifying new investment opportunities, as stated in the High Commission's announcement.

During her time in Nigeria, Minister Badenoch, along with Helen Grant, the Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Nigeria, will hold meetings with representatives of the federal government, state governors, as well as British and Nigerian business leaders and investors.

During the meeting, the minister aims to explore existing and potential investment and trade ventures, spanning from education to infrastructure and energy projects, with the potential to generate thousands of jobs.

Badenoch seeks to reinforce the UK-Nigeria partnership, eliminate trade and investment barriers, foster increased business collaboration between the two nations, and enhance accessibility for Nigerians interested in conducting business in the British business community.

Expressing his thoughts on her visit to Nigeria, British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, stated, "Nigeria is one of the UK’s most crucial partners in Africa. We are dedicated to assisting Nigeria in uncovering new investment opportunities, facilitating more UK and international investment through the City of London, and thereby fostering job creation in both our countries.

"The Federal Government of Nigeria, along with the Central Bank of Nigeria, has implemented substantial and impactful reforms, instilling optimism among international investors that the nation is headed in the right direction and laying the groundwork for growth."
