FG launches digital portal to enhance public service access
Nigeria's Federal Government, in collaboration with Galaxy Backbone, its digital infrastructure provider, has officially introduced the Government Service Portal with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Chidi Okpala, the Head of Media and Corporate Communications at Galaxy Backbone, the primary goal of this initiative is to enhance government-to-citizen interactions and improve access to public services across the country.
The Government Service Portal is a unified digital platform designed to enable citizens to seamlessly engage with multiple government agencies without the necessity of in-person visits, thereby simplifying access to crucial public services.
Galaxy Backbone announced that the launch was marked with a high-level workshop attended by representatives from 12 key government agencies, focusing on advancing the initial phase of the project.
The initiative, according to the agency, will streamline access to essential services such as National Identification Number registration, immigration services, and healthcare, among others.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, representing Minister Bosun Tijani, emphasized the importance of the project and the necessity for increased collaboration and deeper citizen engagement.
"The Government Service Portal has the potential to make a significant impact, and I am confident that through efficient and effective collaboration, we will achieve a great deal for our nation," the minister stated.
Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanyu, the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, underscored the importance of the initiative in revolutionizing the delivery of government services to Nigerians.
He remarked, "Galaxy Backbone takes pride in spearheading this initiative, working in partnership with KOICA to make public services more efficient, transparent, and accessible to all. With the involvement of these pilot agencies, we are taking a significant leap toward a fully digitized public service ecosystem that will benefit every Nigerian citizen."
