The biopic of Michael Jackson is scheduled to be released in 2025
Michael, the biopic of Michael Jackson, is slated for a worldwide premiere on April 18, 2025. Lionsgate is in charge of the film's domestic release, while Universal Pictures will handle its distribution internationally.
Production for the film is scheduled to commence on January 22.
Graham King, acclaimed for his work on biopics such as the Oscar-winning Queen film Bohemian Rhapsody, is producing the Michael Jackson biopic alongside John Branca and John McClain, who serve as the co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate. The script for the film is penned by John Logan, known for his work on Gladiator and The Aviator.
Lionsgate has revealed that the biopic, titled "Michael," aims to encompass all facets of Michael Jackson's life. However, it remains uncertain how, or if, the film will address the various controversies surrounding the late music icon.
The official synopsis outlines the film as follows: "Michael will provide audiences with a compelling and truthful portrayal of the brilliant yet complex man who became the King of Pop. The movie unfolds his triumphs and tragedies on an epic cinematic scale, exploring his human side, personal struggles, and undeniable creative genius showcased in his most iconic performances. For the first time, viewers will gain an intimate look into the life of one of the world's most influential and pioneering artists."
In addition to the Michael Jackson biopic, another major studio film slated for April 2025 is The Minecraft film by Warner Bros., starring Jason Mamoa and Jack Black.
