Davido Challenges N2.3B Contract Breach Suit by Amaju Pinnick
Renowned Afrobeats artist, Davido, has taken on the N2.3 billion breach of contract lawsuit brought against him by Amaju Pinnick, the Chairman of Brownhill Investments Company Limited. Pinnick, a former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), filed the lawsuit on October 31, asserting that Davido violated a contractual agreement to perform at the 19th edition of the 'Warri Again' event on October 6, 2023. Pinnick alleges that despite receiving a payment of $94,500, Davido failed to make an appearance at the scheduled event.
Nevertheless, during the court hearing of the lawsuit, Davido, represented by his legal team led by Norrison Quakers (SAN), contested the jurisdiction of the Delta State High Court in Effurun to adjudicate on the matter.
The singer argued that the case should be treated as a debt recovery matter, emphasizing that Pinnick should have issued a demand letter before resorting to legal action.
Additionally, Davido refuted the assertion that Sosoberokon, the individual who signed the contract on his behalf, was his authorized agent.
He contested Pinnick's assertion that the payment was intended for a performance rather than promotional services.
The court, however, deferred its ruling on the preliminary objections filed in both cases to December 14, 2023.
