D-Black Explores Reasons Behind the Success of Nigerian Artists Compared to Other Africans
Ghanaian rapper and singer Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, known as D-Black, attributes the greater success of Nigerian artists compared to their Ghanaian counterparts to business acumen. According to him, Nigerian artists are more business-driven, whereas Ghanaian artists create music purely for the love of the art.
D-Black shared these insights in a recent episode of The Afrobeats Podcast, stating, "The reason Nigerian records are achieving greater success than Ghanaian ones is because Ghanaian artists are not primarily focused on the financial aspect. Their emphasis is on the love of art, overshadowing the business aspect, which is lacking."
"Despite BET nominations and numerous accolades, I didn't generate significant income. However, when I transitioned to a more commercial genre, Afrobeats, I was able to purchase my Ferrari and Range Rover. I became widely recognized.
"Artists and creatives should realize that relying solely on music may not be sufficient. It's crucial to hustle and capitalize on social media to showcase and promote your craft."
