Salesforce announces over 1,000 job cuts amid AI expansion
According to Bloomberg News, Salesforce is cutting more than 1,000 jobs while hiring to support its artificial intelligence initiatives.Displaced employees will be able to apply for other positions within the company. However, it is unclear which departments will be most affected by the layoffs.
According to its most recent annual report, the cloud-based software giant employed 72,682 people as of January 31, 2024. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff announced in December that the company had secured more than 1,000 paid contracts for "Agentforce," its AI-powered virtual assistant platform.
The layoffs follow previous workforce reductions over the last year. The Wall Street Journal reported in January 2024 that Salesforce had cut approximately 700 jobs. Bloomberg News reported in July 2024 that the company had eliminated an additional 300 positions.
Salesforce plans to release its quarterly earnings report on February 26.
