Rising Material Costs Lead to Closure of Bakeries in Zamfara – Usman

In an interview held in Gusau, the capital city of Zamfara State, Alhaji Yusuf Usman, the State Chairman of the Association of Bread Sellers and also the North West Zonal Secretary, conveyed concerns about the escalating costs of flour and other essential ingredients used in bread production. This surge in prices has led to the unfortunate closure of numerous bakeries in the state.

Usman expressed his distress over the fact that the prices of baking necessities have surged beyond their affordability. He lamented that the elevated costs have compelled several bread and confectionery establishments to cease their operations.

He remarked, "Due to the continuous escalation in the prices of these commodities since 2016, we find ourselves with no choice but to either reduce our production quantities or completely halt production."

In light of this dire situation, Usman appealed to the Federal Government to intervene and provide assistance to ensure the viability of their businesses before the circumstances become insurmountable.
