Ogun State Issues Warning to Employers Regarding Late Tax Filing

Ogun State Government, through the State's Internal Revenue Services, has issued a warning to employers and employees in the state, urging them to submit their Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax returns for the year 2023 by January 31, 2024. The Executive Chairman of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, emphasized that failure to adhere to this directive would result in a penalty. Employers and employees residing in the state are required to file their 2023 PAYE tax returns by the specified deadline, and failure to do so will incur a penalty of N5,000.

"In accordance with the provisions of section 81(1-3) of the Personal Income Tax Act, 2011, as amended, and paragraph 10 of the 2002 PAYE Regulations, all employers of labor, whether corporate or private organizations, with employees residing in Ogun State, are legally mandated to submit their PAYE Tax Returns for the year 2023 on or before January 31, 2024. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in a penalty upon conviction," he stated.

Olaleye encouraged employers to fulfill their obligations by logging in with their existing tax agent credentials on the agency's website. He also emphasized that tax agents who have not yet registered should complete the registration process on the website by providing the necessary information to obtain login details in their registered email.
