NADDC collaborates with Oando to launch electric vehicle initiative
The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has announced a collaboration with Oando Clean Energy to advance vehicle electrification in Nigeria. This partnership was disclosed by Nigeria’s automobile regulator in a statement posted on its LinkedIn account.
NADDC highlighted that this collaboration marks a significant stride towards decarbonizing Nigeria’s public transport system and embracing sustainable transportation solutions, particularly through the integration of hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Ademola Ogumbanjo, Executive Vice President at Oando Clean Energy, emphasized the critical need to transition towards renewable energy sources to bolster energy security in Africa. He also outlined Oando Clean Energy’s research initiatives, culminating in the design of sustainable transport projects aimed at addressing Nigeria’s energy challenges while fostering economic development.
Joseph Osanipin, the Director-General of NADDC, expressed gratitude for the initiative, highlighting its potential to tackle urgent environmental issues and propel the automotive industry in Africa forward.
Osanipin underscored the importance of fostering synergy between NADDC, OANDO Clean Energy, and other pertinent stakeholders to promote the widespread adoption and integration of electric vehicle technology into Nigeria's public transportation system.
He mentioned that this, in turn, would bolster the economy by fostering the expansion of the automotive sector.Since the pre-industrial era, the nation has experienced an increase in its average temperature of around 1°C.
