Jigawa intends to transform the Dutse airport into a cargo airport

Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi, has unveiled plans to convert Dutse airport into a cargo airport as part of an initiative to facilitate international business activities in the state.

Addressing the public in Dutse, Namadi outlined ongoing efforts to showcase the potential of the Maigatari livestock market on the global stage. A statement from Hajiya Zainab Ringim, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media Affairs, quoted the governor as affirming that the state government is engaged in discussions with foreign investors to enhance and upgrade the Maigatari livestock market.

Governor Namadi emphasized, "Maigatari market holds significant prominence in the livestock sector. Our government is committed to enhancing and modernizing the market, with particular emphasis on the livestock segment when reconstruction takes place."

The announcement also mentioned that the state government is presently engaged in extensive discussions with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, as well as other collaborators, to explore avenues for the development of the Maigatari livestock market.

The governor revealed, "Our efforts extend beyond the local development of the market; we aspire to elevate it to an international level. This is why we are engaged in discussions with development partners and international investors. Once they are on board, we will collaborate to maximize our potential."

Namadi added that currently, "We are in the process of making arrangements to modernize our abattoirs into state-of-the-art facilities."

The governor affirmed, "We have our airport here, and we are exploring options to transform it into a cargo airport. Once achieved, we will then proceed to enhance our livestock market."

Furthermore, the governor provided assurance, stating, "We have numerous investors ready to invest in cold rooms and modern abattoirs. Upon completion, we intend to open up the Maigatari livestock market to international opportunities."
