Dangote prepares for production as crude supply reaches 6 million barrels

On Monday, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced its preparedness to initiate the production of refined petroleum products. The refinery confirmed the reception of the 6th batch comprising one million barrels of crude oil, essential for its initial operational phase.

In a statement released on Monday, the company conveyed its readiness to kickstart the production of refined petroleum products, highlighting the significance of the sixth batch of crude barrels supplied by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited.

The statement specified that the recent delivery of one million Agbami barrels of crude, facilitated through MT ALMI SUN, marked the completion of the initially scheduled consignment of six million barrels destined for the Dangote facility. This milestone signifies a crucial step towards the commencement of operations for the world's largest single-train refinery.

Precisely one month ago, the Dangote Refinery took delivery of its initial one million barrels of Agbami crude grade. This supply came from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited, a major trading entity operating in Nigeria and globally, involved in the trading of more than eight million barrels of crude oil daily.

Subsequently, the Dangote Refinery has been receiving the crude oil in installments, and on Monday, the 6th batch of one million barrels of Agbami crude was discharged at the Single Point Mooring located at the Dangote Offshore Oil Terminal.

Akin Omole, the Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, shared with the press at the Dangote Quay in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, that the refinery would be well-positioned to initiate operations upon the completion of the delivery of six million barrels of crude.

Omole explained, "The full delivery of the six million barrels will enable the initial operation of the refinery, leading to the production commencement of diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas. Subsequently, the production of Premium Motor Spirit will follow."

This recent development is poised to play a crucial role in addressing the fuel supply challenges not only in Nigeria but also in West African countries.

Tailored to accommodate 100 percent Nigerian crude while offering flexibility for processing various crudes, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, with a daily capacity of 650,000 barrels, can effectively handle a range of African crude grades. It is also capable of processing Middle Eastern Arab Light, US Light tight oil, and crude from other nations.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is positioned to fulfill 100 percent of Nigeria's demand for all refined products, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel. Moreover, the company anticipates having a surplus of each of these products for export.
