AEDC teams up with Niger government to improve power supply
On Wednesday, AEDC announced its partnership with the Niger State Government for the 'Light up Niger 2024' initiative aimed at enhancing electricity supply in the state.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the company clarified that the initiative would be carried out jointly with the state government to guarantee a consistent power supply to the people of Niger State.
AEDC revealed that the partnership was formalized during a visit by a delegation led by its Chief Operations Officer, Eng. Chijioke Okwuokenye, to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago at the Government House, Minna.
Governor Bago welcomed the initiative, noting that Niger State hosts four hydro dams contributing approximately 60 percent of Nigeria's electricity supply. He emphasized the importance of power supply for development, especially with the state's focus on industrialization and processing zones.
Bago expressed confidence that the 'Light Up Niger' project would address metering challenges in the state. He mentioned that the Electricity Act 2023 has been adopted in the state, and the Niger State Electricity Regulatory Commission has been established. He anticipated the completion of necessary paperwork for the commission to enable the state to generate and distribute its electricity.
Eng. Okwuokenye, the COO of AEDC, highlighted that the 'Light Up Niger' project aims to enhance and sustain electricity supply in Niger State. He praised the Bago administration's support in supplying transformers to communities and expressed the company's commitment to collaborating with the state government for positive outcomes.
