Contrary to reports that Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar is set to join Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano believes Villarreal are the favorites to sign the Almeria man, according to NIGERIANWATCH.
On Wednesday, FtbolFantasy reported that Dortmund had identified the Nigeria international as a replacement for Sebastien Haller, who will be out for some time due to illness, and had made a €25 million bid for the striker.
According to the report, the player had already left his house in El Toyo and had not renewed his rent, which is thought to be in preparation for a move to Germany.
Sadiq has been in excellent form for Almeria for the past two seasons, scoring 38 goals and registering 19 assists in 74 LaLiga 2 appearances.
During the summer transfer window, Villarreal, Real Sociedad, and Valencia were all linked with the former AS Roma forward due to his performance.
Romano debunked claims that Dortmund had made an offer for the 25-year-old in a post on Thursday, stating that the player was closer to joining the Yellow Submarines instead.
“Despite previous rumors, there is no €25 million bid from Borussia Dortmund for Umar Sadiq.” Villarreal is the favorite to sign Sadiq as soon as possible,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Negotiations will continue, but the BVB has not yet initiated formal talks.”
Following an impressive season, the Nigerian was named the Spanish Segunda Division’s Most Valuable Player last season.
Sadiq could make his LaLiga debut on August 14 when Almeria host champions Real Madrid in the first league match of the 2022/23 season.
