Victor Osimhen adjudged to be the fastest player in Serie A with a top speed of 34km per hour

SUPER Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been named as the fastest player in Italy’s Serie A on the first day of the new season after he clocked an average speed of 34.05 km per hour during Napoli’s opening day 2-0 victory over Parma.

Osimhen, 21, joined Napoli this summer for a record-breaking Nigerian fee of €81m, making him the most expensive Super Eagles ever. Although he started the game on the bench, Osimhen did not disappoint the Napoli fans when he came on at half time as his deft touches, darting runs and accurate passing, allowed the club to score two goals, which secured all three point.

According to the official league figures Osimhen clocked a speed of 34.05 km per hour, beating his teammate Dries Mertens’ speed if 31.78km, to be adjudged the fastest player in Serie A for the week. After his debut match against Parma, Napoli’s head coach, Gennaro Gattuso described Osimhen as a young lad with the head of a 40-year-old.

Gattuso said: ”I was struck by Osimhen’s serious attitude. He has not forgotten where he came from and the sacrifices he made.

“He built himself up on his own and I congratulate him for his will and desire. He is a young lad with the head of a 40-year-old and I hope he does not make mistakes and does not change his attitude.”
