Christy Uba, the National Youth Service Corps’ Director of Information and Communications Technology, has been named acting Director-General.
She may be the first woman to be appointed as the head of the NYSC since its inception about 50 years ago.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, the appointment came after the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, fired Brigadier General Muhammad Kaku Fadah as DG (retd.)
Mrs. Uba will oversee NYSC until a substantive Director General is appointed, according to the statement.
“The scheme’s most senior director has taken over leadership of the corps in the capacity of overseer, pending Mr. President’s appointment of a substantive Director General,” Megwa said.
