Traders count their losses as fire destroys the popular Oyo market.
Traders at Ibadan’s famed Bodija Market in Oyo State have begun to calculate their losses after a fire destroyed a part of the market on Monday. According to several shopkeepers, the early morning flame destroyed products worth millions of naira.
While the source of the fire was not immediately determined, it was learned that it was extinguished by firefighters, market merchants, and security officers.
Mr. Ismail Adeleke, Director of Operations for the Oyo State Fire Service, informed our reporter over the phone that the fire had been extinguished.
“We got a call about 5.35 a.m. and went straight to the market to put out the fire.”
There were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the event.
