The Rivers State Non-indigenes Association has urged the Rivers State Governor to support Labour Party presidential candidate Dr. Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election.
They advised Wike not to abandon the former Anambra State governor (Obi), who is significantly younger than his two primary opponents.
High Chief Felix Ogbegbor, chairman of the group, made the demand during a media briefing in Port Harcourt.
Wike, according to Ogbegbor, should avoid supporting the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, since they have nothing to offer the country.
They stated that as governor of Anambra State, Obi performed admirably and left a clean record and that he has a better agenda to reposition the country.
Ogbegbor stated that among the three candidates fielded by the APC, PDP, and LP, Peter Obi stands out and is most favored due to his track record of performance and integrity, which is why they are urging Wike to support him.
He stated that Nigeria today does not require a leader over the age of 70, claiming that Tinubu and Atiku cannot lead the country out of its current economic and security issues.
“I believe Peter Obi is the ideal candidate Wike should support,” he stated. Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar have nothing to give.
“If you look at it, Atiku was busy buying Nigeria when he was Vice President.” Tinubu is out because he bought the entire state of Lagos as a governor.
“If Atiku and Tinubu are unable to step down, Wike should back Peter Obi.” We don’t need another senior person in that office. The others are beyond 70, and we don’t need anyone right now.
“If Wike endorses Obi, we would be right behind him,” he stated, adding that the non+indigenes’ association has passed a conference vote on Governor Wike.
He stated that the association would only support and work for candidates endorsed by Wike, noting that the Governor has exhibited leadership competence.
“The governor of Rivers State is a source of pride for the people.” Wike possesses all of the qualifications to be Nigeria’s president. We’ve come to help a young man who understands what it takes to please his people.
“Like, we haven’t seen the kind of development he’s driving in the last seven years.” He consistently brings positive things to Rivers State.
“That is why we chose to follow him. Whatever he (Wike) says we should do, we will do.
“We will vote for anybody he wants. “We will go wherever he goes,” declared the chairman of the association.
