YORUBA rights activist Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Igboho has warned Nigeria’s federal government that it had better unfreeze all of his bank accounts immediately or face the prospect of massive protests across the southwest geo-political zone.
Over recent weeks tension has been high in southwest Nigeria after Mr Adeyemo asked all Fulani herdsmen to vacate Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State following the murder of local businessmen Dr Fatai Aborode. His call, which has massive local support, came in response to increasing incidences of violent crimes by Fulanis including rape, kidnapping, armed robbery and murder.
With many of the Fulani’s fleeing to neighbouring states, Mr Adeyemo has become a sudden nationwide celebrity and a thorn in the side of the federal government, which has refused to act on the matter. In response, the federal government has decided to freeze all his bank accounts, making it impossible for him to access any money.
Mr Adeyemo said: “They have frozen my bank accounts because I’m fighting a just cause but I know Yoruba people are behind me. I will not relent as I must achieve my aims by putting an end to criminalities in Yorubaland.
“If they refuse to release my accounts, there will be serious protests across the southwest. Yorubas are living in fear as they are afraid that the killer-herdsmen might attack them.”
He added that it maybe that his bank accounts have been frozen by because some people were collecting donations across the geo-political zone. However, Mr Adeyemo said he had no hands in the said donations.
