Gabriela Cavallin accused Antony, who joined Manchester United from Ajax for €95 million on August 30, 2022, of physically assaulting her during their relationship. Gabriela claimed that their relationship had become toxic to the extent that Antony, a 23-year-old Brazil international, threatened to forcibly remove her from a moving vehicle. She supported her claims with evidence, which she submitted to authorities in both Brazil and England.

The scandal came to light on September 4, 2023, when Gabriela shared her experiences in an interview with the Brazilian website UOL. She revealed her fear of being trapped in their home, alleging that Antony locked her inside, causing injuries to her finger. She also claimed that he destroyed her belongings and confiscated her passport.

In contrast to Gabriela Cavallin's accusations, Antony maintained his innocence, asserting that he never physically assaulted his ex-girlfriend. He acknowledged a tumultuous relationship with verbal conflicts on both sides but denied engaging in any physical aggression.

In response to the scandal, Brazilian football authorities released a statement indicating that Antony would be dropped from the national squad pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into the assault allegations. Arsenal's forward, Gabriel Jesus, has replaced Antony for Brazil's upcoming matches against Bolivia on September 9 and Peru on September 13.
