Thiago Silva extends Chelsea contract to 2024

On Friday, Chelsea extended the contract of 38-year-old center-back Thiago Silva until the end of the 2023/2024 season.
Despite spending more than £500 million ($606 million) on new players this season, the Brazilian international has remained an indispensable member of the Blues' defense.

"I am truly delighted to be continuing my career with the Blues," said Silva, who joined Chelsea on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020.

"When I first started here, I signed a one-year contract. It's already the fourth. I couldn't have imagined it, but signing and staying at Chelsea is a very special moment for me."

Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have been chastised for their haphazard approach to the transfer market during their first year in charge.

However, in a joint statement, they praised Silva's experience and leadership abilities as a valuable addition to the roster of young talent they have signed long-term contracts with.

"He's a world-class talent, as he's proven for club and country over many years, and his experience, quality, and leadership skills are critical to our vision going forward," Boehly and Eghbali said.

"We are delighted that he has extended his contract with us, and we look forward to more success with him in the future."
