The tournament at IBB Golf Club welcomes 500 foreign and local stars
More than 100 international stars are set to participate in the IBB Golf and Country Club's Independence Day tournament, scheduled to take place from September 25 to October 1, according to the event's organizers.
Approximately 400 Nigerian players from clubs across the country will join this group. This significant number ensures the presence of some of the world's finest players at the nation's largest golf tournament, celebrating unity, talent, and excellence on one of Africa's premier championship golf courses.
The organizers anticipate that the 2023 IBB Golf Club Independence edition will receive exposure to a national and global audience, surpassing 100 million people. According to IBB Club Captain Banjo Obaleye, this year's Independence golf tournament will see the participation of four countries, welcoming around 100 foreign players to the course for the first time in its storied history.
Obaleye highlights the international camaraderie as a testament to the tournament's growing reputation and the exceptional condition of the course, made possible by state-of-the-art machinery previously unseen in Nigeria's golf history.
In a departure from tradition, this year's event promises an unforgettable tournament for players and an unprecedented experiential experience for sponsors. While the IBB International Golf and Country Club cannot directly affiliate with international golf bodies, Obaleye emphasizes the club's ongoing pursuit of global recognition.
Ibrahim Babayo, the chairman of the Independence Cup Organising Committee and the Club's Vice Captain, emphasizes the club's commitment to forming strategic partnerships with overseas golf clubs and elevating the Independence Golf Tourney to the ranks of the world's top 20 tournaments.
