The national final of the Women's Basketball League commences in Lagos
Today marks the commencement of the Zenith Bank Women's Basketball League national final, featuring four prominent teams: MFM, Air Warriors, Bayelsa Whales, and Nigeria Customs basketball clubs. The showdown takes place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
The road to the national final saw fierce competition, with teams vying for qualification through two phases of games held in the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences. From this challenging journey, MFM Lagos, Air Warriors, Nigeria Customs, and Bayelsa Whales secured their spots in the national final.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) reported that Bayelsa Whales and MFM Basketball Club emerged as top contenders from the Atlantic Conference, while the defending champions, Air Warriors, and Nigeria Customs earned their tickets from the Savannah Conference.
Remarkably, the perennial champions, First Bank Women Basketball Club, known for their historical dominance in the league, did not secure a place in the national final. Pundits are favoring Nigeria Customs, the team that has maintained an undefeated record this year, to claim victory in the 2023 Zenith Bank Women's Basketball League.
