SEC 200m meet win thrills Ofili
Favour Ofili, a Nigerian sprinter, is overjoyed after winning the South Eastern Conference 200m event on Sunday.
Ofili continued her stellar 2023 season by winning her first SEC 200m gold medal in 22.52 seconds, the fastest time in the championships' second final.
The Louisiana State University student hopes to improve on her personal best and African record time of 22.36 seconds in the next race.
At the Tiger Paw Invitational two weeks ago, Ofili set a new time of 22.36 seconds to win the women's 200m heat event.
The silver medalist at the African Games broke her indoor personal best and 200m African record of 22.46 seconds.
"It feels good to come here and win gold. "I understand the time isn't that fast, but we're working on it," Ofili said in an on-the-spot interview posted on her school's Twitter page.
"Time will tell one day, but I'm glad I'm living here with something."
Ofili, a silver medalist at the Commonwealth Games, also competed in the 60m final but finished sixth in 7.24 seconds, her slowest time in the event this season.
