Peseiro asserts that he assembled the Super Eagles team with the aim of winning the upcoming AFCON
Super Eagles Chief Coach, Jose Peseiro, emphasized his mission to prepare the team for victory in the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifier (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire in January 2024.
Peseiro made this declaration during a post-match press conference on Sunday, following the Super Eagles' dominating 6-0 victory over Sao Tome & Principe in their final AFCON qualification match.
Victor Osimhen from Napoli netted a hat-trick, while Ademola Lookman of Atalanta, Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest, and Samuel Chukwueze each contributed a goal during the game.
During the press conference, Peseiro commended his team's unwavering commitment in securing a victory in their last group match against Sao Tome & Principe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
He stated, "Our players displayed maximum commitment. They are determined to perform for me, as I have assembled them with the goal of winning the AFCON Cup. Today, they demonstrated excellent dedication in their performance."
Peseiro praised the Super Eagles for their outstanding performance, noting that they did not ease up even though they were facing a relatively weaker opponent like Sao Tome.
"Usually, when playing against a weaker team, there is a tendency to relax, but today, they maintained their intensity. The players delivered a fantastic game, and a 6-0 scoreline is highly commendable," Peseiro remarked.
He also expressed his appreciation to the people and government of Akwa Ibom for creating a fantastic atmosphere for the match, highlighting the fantastic support from the fans.
