Oshoala's assist falls short as Bay FC suffers defeat
Despite Oshoala's impressive individual performance for Bay FC, the new National Women’s Soccer League side suffered a 2-1 defeat against Washington Spirit in their second league game on Sunday.
The Super Falcons forward and her club had aimed to capitalize on their historic NWSL debut with another victory, but they suffered a late setback as the home team clinched the win.
In the 11th minute, Oshoala demonstrated her playmaking skills by delivering an exquisite through ball, setting up teammate Dorian Bailey for a close-range finish, granting Bay FC a 1-0 advantage.
However, this lead lasted only 12 minutes as the home team, led by Croix Bethune, responded with a late goal in stoppage time, securing a 2-1 victory for Washington Spirit.
Just last week, the 29-year-old etched her name in Bay FC's history during their NWSL debut by netting their inaugural goal in the US women's topflight league.
It took Oshoala just 17 minutes to secure her place in the club’s annals, skillfully converting a pass from Tess Boade into the only goal of the match.
Following their setback in the second matchday, Bay FC and Oshoala are eager to reverse their fortunes next week as they prepare to host Michelle Alozie’s Houston Dash in their inaugural home game at PayPal Park in San Jose, California, scheduled for Sunday.
