Nigeria has another opportunity to secure a spot in the table tennis team event for the Paris 2024 O
A new chance has opened up for Nigeria to qualify for the table tennis team event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has confirmed Nigeria, among 39 other nations, for the 2024 World Team Championships to be hosted in Busan, South Korea.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Nigerian team, captained by Quadri Aruna, relinquished the only continental ticket to Egypt during the 2023 African Championships in Tunis.
Their next objective is to secure berths for Paris during the 2024 World Championships, scheduled to take place at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Centre (BEXCO) from Feb. 16 to Feb. 25.
Nigeria's most recent participation in the Olympic Games' team event was at the Rio Games in 2016. Despite Nigeria's efforts to qualify through the world qualifiers held in Portugal in 2019, Egypt represented Africa at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
In the men's category of the world team championships, Africa will be represented by Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, and Madagascar. Meanwhile, in the women's category, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, and Mauritius will proudly carry the continent's flag.
