Kenneth Omeruo Expresses Confidence in Nigeria Clinching 4th AFCON Title in Ivory Coast

Veteran Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo, is confident in Nigeria's ability to secure victory in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. Serving as the interim captain in the absence of Ahmed Musa, Omeruo believes that the Nigerian side possesses the necessary qualities to clinch the 2023 AFCON title.

The Super Eagles last claimed the AFCON trophy in South Africa in 2013, marking almost a decade since their last triumph. Prior to that, Nigeria emerged victorious at home in 1980 and repeated the feat in Tunisia in 1994. As the team gears up for the 34th edition of the tournament, scheduled to take place in five cities across Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024, they have adopted the slogan "Let’s Do It Again."

During the draw ceremony, the Eagles were placed in Group A alongside hosts Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau. In an interview with the NFF media team, Omeruo expressed that the team's "Let’s Do It Again" mantra reflects their aspiration to secure a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title in Ivory Coast.

He emphasized the importance of having a winning mentality and acknowledged the quality of players brought into the squad by the coach. Omeruo stated, “I do believe we have the quality to win the AFCON; we have to take every game step by step and create the winning mentality the coach talked about." He also highlighted the addition of top players to the squad, expressing excitement about facing their opponents.
