Garcia draws comparisons between Osimhen and Ronaldo

Napoli's coach, Rudi Garcia, perceives Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen to possess leadership qualities akin to those of Portuguese icon Cristiano Ronaldo.

Garcia, who guided Ronaldo at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia last season before assuming his role with the Italian champions this summer, highlights the shared trait of motivating their teammates through a winning mindset during matches.

In anticipation of his team's Serie A title defense, commencing against Frosinone on Saturday, Garcia places Osimhen among the elite talents globally.

"I had a strong rapport with Cristiano. I comprehended the reasons behind his illustrious career. He set the example by arriving first and departing last during training sessions. An extraordinary leader, he embraced competition even in practices. His 'Siuu' celebration echoed through penalty shootouts and Champions League triumphs alike. Osimhen embodies leadership; his unyielding desire to triumph and rally the team is evident," Garcia remarked to DAZN.

"He shares similarities with Cristiano Ronaldo. Upon victory, he radiates immense joy, rallying his teammates for celebratory photos. His demeanor appeals to me. Counted among the world's finest, his prowess isn't limited to offensive prowess; he actively contributes defensively, pressing adversaries, a contribution that greatly benefits the team. Such attributes underscore the collective strength within our group."

Last season, Napoli clinched their first Scudetto in 33 years, with Osimhen claiming the top scorer title in the league.

Simultaneously, Garcia eagerly anticipates a promising season collaborating with the Georgian standout Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who made a strong impression during his inaugural Serie A campaign last year.

"There's room for improvement in Kvara's game; he possesses a remarkable flair with the ball at his feet, and his playing style is truly captivating," he remarked.

"It's imperative for Napoli to secure a place in the Champions League, necessitating the presence of a robust team.

"During my tenure at Lyon, we reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. The European stage presents distinct challenges; players channel heightened dedication toward it. However, it's essential to emphasize that our day-to-day efforts must primarily align with our league pursuits."
