Enoch Nwali emerges as the champion of the Lekki Scrabble Classic

Enoch Nwali, the reigning African Scrabble Champion, clinched victory in the second edition of the Lekki Scrabble Classic Championship held at Ikoyi Club 1938 over the weekend.

With over 100 skilled players vying for top honors during the two-day competition, it served as a commemoration of Nigeria's 63rd Independence anniversary. The former World Scrabble Champion, Wellington Jighere, secured the second position, while Adigun Olatunde claimed third place.

The championship featured a total of 18 intense games. Following his victory, Nwali expressed his ambition to be counted among the world's elite Scrabble players.

Jighere noted that Enoch's win signaled the emergence of younger talents who are contributing to maintaining Nigeria's prominence in global Scrabble.

Samuel Anikoh, Chairman of the Lekki Scrabble Club, pledged the club's commitment to organizing more Scrabble events to elevate the sport's standard in Nigeria. He emphasized the need to encourage more players to participate in competitive Scrabble, moving beyond casual play for leisure.

He also mentioned plans to attract additional sponsors to the Lekki Scrabble events, with the goal of increasing participation and enhancing the attractiveness of the prize money for players. Nwali was awarded N500,000 as the champion, with other notable players receiving monetary rewards and various gifts in different categories.
