"The NFF is currently awaiting the FIFA World Cup payouts for the Super Falcons"
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has disclosed that the funds allocated to the Super Falcons' players by FIFA have not yet been received.
For their achievement in reaching the second round of the recently concluded Women's World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand, each member of the Super Falcons' playing squad is entitled to a $60,000 reward.
The tournament concluded on August 20 in Sydney, with Spain emerging victorious over England in a close-fought match.
Commenting on the matter, Ademola Olajire, the NFF's Director of Media, affirmed that the federation had cleared all players' entitlements prior to the World Cup. He assured that once the FIFA funds are transferred, the players will be duly compensated.
Similarly, the South African Football Association (SAFA) has noted that Banyana Banyana players are yet to receive their payments from FIFA. The South African women's national team achieved a historic feat by becoming the first senior national football team, irrespective of gender, to advance beyond the group stage in a FIFA tournament.
Much like the Super Falcons, Banyana Banyana, who also reached the round of 16 in the Women's World Cup, are also awaiting their FIFA funds.
Lydia Monyepao, the chief executive of the South Africa Football Association (SAFA), clarified that FIFA doesn't directly communicate with players. Instead, the money is channeled through each country's football association.
Monyepao emphasized that FIFA's relationship is with the member associations, not the players, and stated, "FIFA does not have a relationship with the players – the relationship is with the member association and it’s something that they’ve made clear. They give us the money and we distribute."
