The Rotary Club of Lagos plans to construct a world-class model primary school in the Ilara Kingdom in Lagos State’s Epe Local Government Area.
The club’s initiative is in honour of this year’s Basic Education and Literacy Week.
“The model primary school will be equipped according to global standards,” said the club’s President, Joseph Akhigbe, at the project’s groundbreaking.
Akhigbe praised Oba Olukayode Olufolarin, Alara of Ilara Kingdom, saying the monarch possessed the qualities needed to attract development to his kingdom.
“Incidentally, today is the 55th Oba of Ilara Kingdom’s birthday, and we have the honor of laying the foundation of a model primary school in Ilara Kingdom for the betterment of the people of Ilara Kingdom and its environs,” he added.
The monarch, for his part, thanked the club for the project, which he said would help educate the nation.
“I sincerely want to thank you enormously for the wonderful gesture towards Ilara Kingdom because it is widely held that when you educate a child, you educate a nation, and what the Rotary Club of Lagos has done today is proof of that,” he said.
“Very close to this place, you will see a modern college, Augustine University, and people are also trying to put up estates,” the monarch said of the project’s impact on his kingdom. There should be complementary services such as medical, educational, and vocational entertainment where there are estates. So mentioning this project here by the Rotary Club of Lagos is the best thing that could happen to the Ilara Kingdom and the best birthday gift I have ever received in my life.
“The Lagos State Government has also been bringing other development projects to the Epe community.” For example, the Lagos State Government recently brought a food storage facility to Epe; the free trade zone in Lekki houses one of the world’s largest refineries; a fertilizer plant has been inaugurated; the Lagos Deep Sea Project, Africa’s largest, is also in Lekki; and an airport is on the way.
“All of these factors combine to make this axis a desirable place to live and work.”
