Wike Reveals He Is Not Working For The APC - Here’s Why

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, stated on Wednesday that his allegiance is not with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He emphasized that his commitment lies with President Bola Tinubu rather than the APC. In a recent interview on Channels TV, the ex-Governor of Rivers State also asserted that he doesn't feel the need to apologize to anyone for supporting Tinubu both prior to and after the 2023 elections.

“I am not working for APC. I am working for Tinubu who have trust in me to help him deliver the renewed hope,” Wike said.

He added, “I owe nobody any apology at all. I was in PDP and I worked for Ahmed Bola Tinubu to become the President of Nigeria.”

Furthermore, Wike restated his affiliation with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and openly challenged the party to take the step of suspending him. He also emphasized that no individual within the PDP possesses the authority to reprimand him; instead, he believes he should be the one to address those who disregarded the party's constitutional provisions regarding rotation.

Wike's remarks were made in the context of the internal conflict that impacted the PDP prior to the 2023 presidential election. During this time, he and a group of others popularly referred to as the G5 Governors opposed the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The Minister further ridiculed the leadership of the PDP, pointing out that the person who aimed to suspend him was unable to present a Governor or even three Senators or Assembly members from their state. In contrast, he highlighted his contribution to the PDP by securing the Governorship seat, State Assembly members, as well as National Assembly members in Rivers State.
