Tensions Emerge Within APC Regarding Selection of New National Officials

The election of individuals to fill vacant positions in the National Working Committee (NWC) and zonal leadership roles within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) might be leading to a potential crisis.

During a media briefing, the party's National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, revealed the results of the NWC meeting held at the APC National Secretariat, which included the election of the new officials.

The newly elected officials are as follows: Ali Bukar Dalori (Borno State) will take on the role of deputy national chairman, North (North East Zone), succeeding the Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari. Garba Datti Muhammad (Kaduna State) will replace Salihu Moh Lukman as national vice chairman, North West (North West).

Abdul Karim Abubakar Kana (Nasarawa State) has been selected as the replacement for the resigned national legal adviser in the North Central Zone. Donatus Nwankpa (Abia State) will assume the position of new national welfare secretary (South East Zone), succeeding the late Friday Nwosu. Mary Alile Idele from Edo State is the new national women leader (South-South).

Duro Meseko (Kogi State) will step into the role of deputy national publicity secretary (North Central Zone), succeeding Yakubu Ajaka, while Ikani Shuaibu Okolo (Kogi State) will take on the position of zonal organizing secretary (North Central).

However, the announcement of the elected officers from Abia, Kogi, and Cross River States could potentially trigger an undesirable crisis within the party.

Reportedly, party leaders and prominent members like the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Beta Edu, who had initially recommended Dr. Stella Odey-Ekpo, allegedly lost to the candidate supported by Adams Oshiomhole.

Additionally, the candidate endorsed by Governor Yahaya Bello reportedly lost to James Faleke's candidate for the deputy national publicity secretary position.

Concerning Abia State, it was also alleged that candidates backed by both the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, and the State Chairman, Ikechi Emenike, were defeated by the candidate supported by Governor Hope Uzodimma.

In response to these outcomes, former woman leader Edu reportedly protested at the national secretariat around 6.20 pm, expressing dissatisfaction with the removal of her candidate who had already begun assuming duties.
