Reasons Behind My Absence from APC Caucus Meeting – Buhari

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has provided insight into his absence from the caucus meeting of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC.

The APC had set August 2 and 3 as the dates for its national caucus and national executive committee (NEC) gatherings, respectively.

The national caucus gathering occurred at the presidential villa on Wednesday, while the NEC conference will convene party leaders at Transcorp Hilton today (Thursday).

Regarding Buhari's absence from the meetings, Garba Shehu, his spokesperson, explained in a statement that the former president was unable to attend due to prior commitments.

The statement reads: "Former President Muhammadu Buhari has provided clarification for his non-attendance at the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus and national executive committee (NEC) meetings, to which he was invited. He conveys his regrets, citing pre-existing commitments as the reason for his unavailability.

"In conveying his apologies, the former president reaffirmed his support and dedication to the party. He also extended well wishes for a productive meeting, during which significant decisions pertaining to the party and the nation would be discussed."

It's worth noting that former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo similarly expressed his regrets for being unable to participate in the events, citing his involvement in various international assignments.

On July 17, the APC announced the postponement of its scheduled national caucus and national NEC meetings.

Abubakar Kyari, the interim national chairman of the APC, addressed the media following an urgent assembly of the party's national working committee (NWC).

The NWC meeting took place at the party's headquarters in Abuja in response to the "resignation" of Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore from their positions as National Chairman and National Secretary of the ruling party, respectively.

Kyari explained that the shift in the party's leadership prompted the need for the meetings' rescheduling.
