Obaseki Considers Office Relocation as Shaibu Returns

The tension at the Edo State Government's headquarters on Dennis Osadebay Avenue might escalate today as Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu resumes his duties after a recent fallout with his superior, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

After being on a one-month leave, Shaibu, who had clashed with Obaseki due to his own aspirations for the governorship, is returning to his responsibilities. He had even gone as far as filing a lawsuit against the governor, the state House of Assembly, and others, aiming to prevent an alleged impeachment plan.

In light of the controversy and subsequent criticism, Musa Ebomhiana, the Chief Press Secretary for Shaibu, confirmed to Vanguard that his boss would be back on the job today.

A reliable source connected to the governor revealed that Obaseki remains taken aback by his deputy's actions, even after attempts by certain political leaders to mediate. There are speculations that the governor might establish a new office outside the Government House, allowing him to handle official matters from there. It's uncertain whether executive meetings would also be held in this new location, which is situated around 1,500 meters from the rarely utilized emergency gate of the Government House.

Coinciding with this development, the governor is set to host his counterpart from Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, and other stakeholders from both Delta and Edo states in a colloquium today. This event commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum. Andrew Okungbowa, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, conveyed in a statement that the colloquium forms part of the lineup of activities marking the 60th anniversary of the historic referendum.
