The Federal Government announced on Monday that no world leaders have been invited to attend the 63rd independence anniversary scheduled for October 1. This decision aligns with the government's choice for a modest celebration. During a press conference in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, clarified this stance, emphasizing that a low-key celebration is in response to the challenging economic times, and no world leaders have been extended invitations. He also mentioned that the report on the investigation for CBN will be made public soon.

"As you may be aware, the President has granted approval for the 63rd anniversary to be observed with modesty, in line with our current economic challenges. The theme for this anniversary is 'Nigeria @ 63, Renewed Hope for Unity & Prosperity.'

Addressing the matter of national interest, he emphasized, 'We have collectively agreed to promote a peaceful, united, and prosperous nation, despite our diversity. These principles are indispensable for the progress of any nation. The government is committed to safeguarding our national interests.'

He further underscored the significance of this celebration, highlighting the unbroken democratic journey since 1999 and the smooth, successful, and peaceful presidential transition from one administration to another."

"Despite political upheavals and coup attempts in certain ECOWAS sub-regions, Nigerians have wholeheartedly embraced democracy, recognizing its fundamental principles and practices as the most suitable system of governance. Democracy grants citizens the chance to actively engage in their country's affairs through elected structures and processes."

"In representative democracy, the relationship between the people and the government is symbiotic. Citizens support the government, which, in turn, ensures security and safeguards their interests.

"The government acknowledges the economic difficulties Nigerians face, particularly after the fuel subsidy removal and amidst the global economic downturn. Efforts are underway to provide essential relief measures to alleviate these challenges. Initiatives, such as the provision of buses to alleviate transportation difficulties, are being implemented. Additionally, the government is actively engaging with labor to address concerns that impact the well-being of all Nigerian workers and citizens as a whole."

"This government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is firmly rooted in the Renewed Hope Agenda. This comprehensive agenda aims to enhance food security, eradicate poverty, bolster security, stimulate economic growth, create jobs, facilitate access to capital, foster a fair and transparent business environment, uphold the rule of law, and combat corruption.

Several programs have been scheduled for the anniversary, including a symposium/public lecture on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the State House Conference Center at 10 am. There will also be a lecture on Friday, September 29, 2023, at the National Mosque Conference Center at 10 am, followed by Juma'at Prayer at the National Mosque at 1 pm."

Akume also disclosed the following events for the celebration:

A presidential broadcast will be made on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at 7 am.

An inter-denominational church service is scheduled for Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the National Christian Center at 10:00 am.

A military parade will take place on Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Presidential Villa at 9 am.
