Atiku Criticizes Tinubu's New Media Aides Appointments: 'Even a Thousand of Them Can't Rescue You
Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has suggested that President Bola Tinubu's recent appointments of media aides aim to bolster propaganda and salvage his reputation among Nigerians. However, Atiku contends that not even a thousand media aides can redeem Tinubu's tarnished image.
In a statement released on Monday by Atiku's Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the PDP flagbearer alleges that Tinubu's new media appointments confirm earlier suspicions of a propaganda campaign. Shaibu asserts that Tinubu is attempting to cover up falsehoods regarding his academic records and other scandals in the United States.
President Tinubu, on Monday, announced the appointment of several individuals to media-related positions, including Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants with diverse responsibilities.
In response to these appointments, Atiku's aide argues that the sheer number of media aides cannot salvage Tinubu's reputation, especially given the scandals surrounding him. Shaibu claims that the appointments align with his previous warning on September 18 about the Tinubu government's plans to establish a propaganda unit.
Shaibu criticizes the government's priorities, highlighting the certificate forgery scandal and impending revelations from the FBI regarding Tinubu's heroin case in the United States. He questions the government's focus on media advisers over economic aides and accuses Tinubu of intending to rule through propaganda.
Concluding his statement, Shaibu emphasizes that no amount of propaganda can mask the challenges facing the government, such as poverty, infrastructure issues, insecurity, and the need for foreign investments. He underscores that while propaganda has its limits, addressing fundamental issues is essential for effective governance.
