Allow Tinubu more time to address challenges - Gowon
Retired Gen. Yakubu Gowon has encouraged Nigerians to grant the President Bola Tinubu-led administration more time to address the diverse challenges facing the country. He emphasized that it is premature, at this point in the administration's tenure, to expect the resolution of all inherited crises across different sectors.
Gowon made this statement following a meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday in Abuja.
Gowon expressed his views, stating, “Well, I was telling him that no Nigerian leader who gets there will not have all the reports of what is being said about him. But certainly, there's no doubt from what one hears and sees on the various media, I think the government is trying its best to deal with the various problems of the country."
"Don’t you worry; you will get criticized, but people who get there know better than you know. I think all one can say is that Nigerians, we’ve got to give the President time to get things really done. And it is too early to say absolute, perfect results will be achieved now.”
Gowon mentioned that the meeting with the President also focused on the challenges facing the ECOWAS subregion, emphasizing the need for amicable resolutions. He clarified that claims on social media suggesting he refused to attend an event organized by ECOWAS were likely due to miscommunication.
