PDP delegates in Taraba stone Governor Ishaku and his deputy for trying to impose candidate on them

PDP delegates in Taraba stone Governor Ishaku and his deputy for trying to impose candidate on them

PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) delegates in Taraba State have stoned the convoys of Governor Darius Ishaku and that of his deputy Haruna Manu at the Catholic Pastoral Centre Jalingo over the imposition of a gubernatorial candidate on them.

Earlier today,  the deputy governor had driven to the voting arena where the state gubernatorial primary election was billed to take place but the delegates drove him with stones. Shortly afterwards, the governor’s convoy drove into the arena and it too was attacked with delegates insisting that they did not want to talk to the governor and the party leadership.

Some of the delegates said they were not comfortable with the imposition of Kefas Agbu, the state party chairman as a gubernatorial aspirant when he was never a part of the process until 48 hours to the primaries. Posters of Mr Agbu who had earlier denied being a part of the governorship race, suddenly sprung all over the state capital Jalingo this week.

Apparently, this happened shortly after the former defence minister General Theophilus Danjuma flew into the state and allegedly anointed him as his candidate for the gubernatorial elections. This action has sparked widespread condemnation and agitations from stakeholders who insist that they would not have the elder statesman impose a candidate on the party.

More so, they are aggrieved about the fact that the candidate is the sitting chairman of the party and from the same zone as the current governor who is about to complete his second tenure in office. Later today, the delegates will elect their gubernatorial candidate.
