According to the Oyo State Police Command, the 147 passengers apprehended by Amotekun in Ibadan on Tuesday have been handed over to security operatives in Ogun State.
The state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams, stated on Wednesday in a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, that the passengers, aged 12 to 30, were profiled by police, the Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence, and Amotekun prior to the handover.
He claimed that the passengers in a truck travelling from Zamfara to Ogun States were farmers and traders.
Motorcycles, bags of beans, and onions were among the items discovered on board the truck, according to him.
“At about 1500hrs on Tuesday August 2, a Blue Iveco truck with reg No. BWR 143XD, driven by one Abdulahi Aliu’m’ age 30 years and conveying about 147passengers comprising 140 male passengers between 12-30 years, four adult female passengers, and three female children were intercepted by members of the public along Iyana Bodija-Iso Pako, Ibadan.”
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck and its passengers, who were mostly farmers and traders, were traveling from Kaura Namuda, Zamfara State to Ogere, Ogun State.”
“Following the foregoing, the Blue truck was thoroughly searched and its passengers profiled by a combined team of police, men from the Department of State Services, and the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, to rule out the possibility of ferrying escapees from any recorded jailbreaks within the country.”
“The investigation revealed that the truck was transporting eight motorcycles as well as bags of beans and onions to be delivered to their owners at Bodija Market.”
“After the process was completed, the truck and its passengers were escorted out of the state and have since been handed over to and received by security operatives in Ogun State.”
