Osun State PDP unanimously adopts Ademola Adeleke as its 2022 gubernatorial candidate

Osun State PDP unanimously adopts Ademola Adeleke as its 2022 gubernatorial candidate

FLAMBOUYANT lawmaker Senator Ademola Adeleke is set for a return to frontline politics again next year after the Osun State chapter of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) unanimously agreed to field him as their gubernatorial candidate in 2022.

In 2017, Senator Adeleke  was a elected to the senate to represent Osun West Senatorial District after winning a dramatic by-election as the PDP candidate. A year later, he then stood as the PDP governorship candidate in Osun State but narrowly lost to Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and all his legal challenges have failed to overturn the result.

Nicknamed the dancing senator because of his nimble footwork when he takes to the dance floor, Senator Adeleke is a huge favourite among the PDP faithful in Osun State. Earlier this week, after a reconciliatory meeting of the Osun PDP, mediated by the party’s national reconciliation team, chairman Dr Bukola Saraki, it was unanimously agreed to field Senator Adeleke as their 2022 governorship candidate in Osun State.

At the meeting attended by both factions of the party in the state, it was also agreed that Sunday Bisi will be the validly recognised as the chairman of the Osun State chapter of the PDP. The meeting was called pursuant to a national reconciliation committee set up by the PDP National Working Committee led by party chairman Prince Uche Secondus.

Osun State is expected to go to the polls in September 2022 in what is now looking like a re-run of 2018 when the gubernatorial battle was a two-horse race between Governor Oyetola and Senator Adeleke.
